In addition to the forward osmosis (FO) technology WWRS, provides a range of technologies and expertise in all aspect of water recycling. We provide turnkey systems, training, operational support and 3rd party financing. We have detailed operational experience in the winery wastewater recycling sector in the following areas:
Distillation: Use of distillation as a dedicated barrel water recycling system and for high water recovery ratio applications.
- Completed 2 year barrel wash water recycling pilot demonstration test at Sonoma County winery. Distillation system treated wastewater from Tom Beard automated barrel washer.
- Competed 1 year high water recovery ratio tests. Distillation system was used to determine maximum water recovery ratio possible at Napa Valley winery using high calcium well water.
Wet Oxidation: Use of WetOx as a winery wastewater post treatment system to produce potable water.
- Completed 1 year WetOx test to demonstrate treatment of watery wastewater into potable water. Test was done as part of barrel wash water recycling tests. Demonstrated treatment to potable standards.
Brine Drying: The FO and distillation systems both produce a concentrated byproduct. Brine drying technologies are used to dry this byproduct to a solid waste so that it can be disposed of at a solid waste facility. Some of the technologies offered are:
- Spray driers, used when solids are not sticky.
- Pervaporization bags, used for sticky solids.
- Osmotic concentration, used for hazardous solids.
- Thermal dryers, used for low molecular weight solids.
Filtration: Testing of pre-filtration technologies.
- Competed over 3 years of operation of gravity paper filter as bulk pre-filtration technology for winery wastewater.
- Completed tests for identification of required pre-filtration size for distillation and forward osmosis in multiple applications.
Settling Tanks: Demonstrated use of settling tanks as bulk pre-filtration technology.
Biocide: Completed testing on use of chemical biocides to insure long term sterility of produced water.
Wastewater Sump Management: Development of sump best practice to ensure proper operation. Reliable sump operations are critical to overall system reliability.
- Tested solids removal and control systems.
- Developed yeast growth control and management systems.
